The Sanctuary Then
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has graciously "loaned" us land on the Los Angeles VA grounds to construct the Sanctuary. Converted from an old basketball court, a tremendous amount of effort went into breaking down concrete, clearing debris, and erecting aviaries and a food preparation shed. Construction started in April 2006 with the pro bono help of architect Rouben Mohiuddin, and the community service class that he created to help build the first half of the sanctuary.

The Sanctuary had its official Grand Opening on May 31, 2007, but started caring for birds in need in September 2006.
